2. All Black Everything
For me, some days just call for all black…usually if I’m grinding on a project, or planning to be out late.
It’s funny to say, but it’s true, wearing all black can ad a hint of rebellion, which can be translated into confidence. I remember our basketball team used to wear all black sneakers on the court because it was “intimidating”…same idea I guess.
For a tonal look, ad depth and texture by mixing various fabrics and finishes.
For example: the jacket is waxed, the jeans are matte, the henley is a silk blend with sheen, the loafers are polished leather, the belt and watch strap are alligator, etc.
If you don’t have a pair of go-to penny loafers, get some.
You will find yourself wearing them with everything.

I love denim jackets but have been scared to buy one for fear of looking like an 80′s throwback. Thanks for the ideas. Next spring I’ll look into buying one.

Hi Dan, well done on the new site! To help us can you still list the sizing of the items featured (eg Levis jacket size Medium) like it was on the old site? This would be very usefull.
Oh and Dan, I’m loving the new site. It was amazing before (hard for a 19 year old to find influences in Boise, Idaho) but the layout is just so clean now.
I like the new site and logo although I kinda miss having all the “looks” on one page rather than having to click “next look”. Also, regarding the ‘vintage’ Denim jacket – is it a true vintage jacket ie. a dead-stock model from the past or at the very least thrifted or is it just a new jacket with a vintage-wash as the ”Shop The Look’ link indicates? I just think if your going to use the term vintage, the item should truly be vintage.

The jacket is vintage, as described on the site. I bought it 5 years ago and worn it hard since. I think it was made in the 70s.
The Shopping Links are only related items available to achieve look, not necessarily the exact same ones (especially in the case of vintage pieces, for obvious reasons).

hey dan, congrats on the new site. really like some of the new content. i do miss the archives by the months and years (probably b/c i had every post locked in my memory HA). my only real negative is that its a little busy. maybe too much text? for instance, on the left where you have “Featured” maybe instead of listing everything, you could click “Featured” and then it would display everything featured and then click it again and it would disappear. same thing with “Shop This Look”. i would also bring back your banner at the very top with the pics in grayscale. that shit was hot! keep it up!

Super! I have this jacket from Levi’s and I’ve already been incorporating it into my transitional wardrobe from summer to fall. The cuts on it are so precise and gives a great trim silhouette, no bulk.
I love this look and I even added in a slim-fit, charcoal grey waistcoat to dapper it up even more.
The new site is great. Can’t wait to see what’s in store moving ahead!
Nevermind, I was having issues with the site loading on opera (actually just having issues with opera), I can see the featured items now.

Those are some beautiful sunglasses you’re rocking in looks two and three, mind sharing what brand/model so I can do soem perusing of my own? Either I’m missing something, or you guys have stopped posting the actual detailed info on the fits; really miss that, always inspired me to check out some new brands, etc.
Love the last look – serious, playful, autumnal. Also love that Dan is never too ‘cool’ to smile.

My favorite Fall accessory!
First impression: not *too sure* about the new look. I mean the website, though the same applies to the seemingly Daniel Bryan inspired goat-beard ;-) . I liked the all-black ensemble though, a nice departure from TSB.

Does this mean that you’ll stop featuring vintage pieces or other clothes where you’re not going to be able to “shop this look”?
Ben, absolutely not. Our goal is to try to inspire your personal style, not to get you to buy stuff. The shop this look feature was created as a response to the countless emails and comments we received asking where to buy cheaper alternatives to clothing featured in the post. We’ll definitely keep the vintage coming.
Not to mention our new Store will include a vintage department…part of “phase 2″ of our website build out…
