With a strong pattern like camo, often all you need is a small touch. What better small touch that a pocket square?
Bonus Tip: this is my first time wearing these new dark jeans. Notice how slim they are, specifically in the thighs. For the first few wears, your jeans should be hugging your legs and be snug in the waist. Within a matter of days (sometimes hours, depending on the denim) they will loosen up nicely to a “slim not skinny” resting state. I promise.
This is yet another example of how olives work well together (as shown here, and here).

In one of the other comments you mentioned that you tapered the pants yourself. I found some pants at a thrift store today, and as far as I can tell they should be about the exact same as the ones you are wearing. They are, however, a bit baggy. Any advice on tapering pants oneself, or links to good tutorials? Or, advice on what to tell a tailor to ensure that you get what you want? I live in the midwest, in an area that isn’t very fashion forward, so I fear that a tailor may be confused about why I am asking them to take in a pair of beat up thrifted army pants. In civilian life, camo pants are best suited with Chucks or some other smooth sneaker and a t-shirt. Dressing it up looks ridiculous.
Though I must say, the below comment is entirely personal, and the thing that’s possibly best about his style, is that he keep it lively and unique. Being confident enough to stand out and stray from fashion “norms” is what makes him most impressive.
As much as I love this guy, I have to say, camo is not meant for casual/civilian wear.

Going along with your tip on having new jeans hug your legs, do you recommend the same for chinos? I got some Docker khakis to add to my pant collection as I’ve only worn jeans until I came across your site. I got them one size up because they were more comfortable to walk around in, but I probably could’ve managed the first size I tried on (32/30).
Will chinos do the same and go to a slim state? Thanks!

Style- quality of imagination and individuality expressed in one’s actions and tastes…I think the camo is awesome man, looks great especially with the orange shirt. Not many people would think to pair those but then I saw the socks and was sold. Keep up the great posts.

I like the second look quite a bit, and I had worn a look similar to that but with an even older style camo top, a 60s dated ERDL top(basically the older version of the camo you are wearing) and was told by a retired soldier that he thought it was disrespectful.
It didnt have any patches or medals on it and I never claimed to be anyone I wasn’t.
Im just curious as to how you or any of your other readers feel about that issue.

You people just can’t appreciate a different look now can you? The Camo pants are awesome with those shoes because they are fitted. Although I in my opinion, I would make them just a bit more slimmer and crop them an inch or so. Also, I know they look authentic because they are authentic, but if they had a more refined fabric they would look excellent with the rest of the outfit. Great inspiration.

I figured I should respond to this one. I do enjoy Dan’s work. Ive been reading since the 1st Styleblogger site. When I created my site I used a variety of templates my current one that works the best and is the easiest to navigate. Dan is a big influence on my work and so are alot of the other bloggers that I follow. Our work is all different but with the same goal of showing off personal style. Be sure that things will change with my site with time. Of course i can take the criticism like a man so no hard feelings here. It would be different if I was the bashing type, i just give props really where they are due.

I have to agree with the previous post. I really dislike the first look which is surprising because most of the things you wear I believe work well. I have only read the winter portion of your blogging, so I will have to see what the summer style is all about. Layering seems to be a strong suit, however; the pattern mixing is for the birds.

For their squares, may I suggest your readers consider “recycling” real camo trouser thighs or blouse backs. For those who want to pay homage to a particular branch of service – or even just “pop” a specific color pallet – there are seven distinct patterns of camo across today’s U.S. forces alone (your tax dollars at work).
Anyone who’d rather have someone else sew for them may wish to consider an internet search for any of the hundreds of military wives and moms who use old uniforms to make purses. I’m sure they’d be glad to help.

I love your use of camo in this post. Most guys think that camo means an old dusty tee shirt and shoes that really shouldn’t be worn in public. LOL!!! My favorite is the camo with the orange sweater although the unexpectedness of it as a hanky is pretty cool too!!

Again I have to give it to you for the first outfit, and even though the critics are a little harsh, you still are very avant-garde with a touch of style!
Like you wrote before, there isn’t any wrong or right way to dress, it’s really based on your own preferences!
The camo, orange v-neck, and the socks, awesome combo.
Also, the last outfit is very “crispy”, but in my case I’m very particular with the way my denims fit, and they have to be comfortable when I put them on… but you pulled it off with the camo pocket square.
The suede chukka boots from John Varvatos are really nice, I saw one of your posts before where you had some navy blue ones on, sick!

They are the 484′s actually. They fit me better than the vintage slim’s. Body types vary greatly and jeans are so idiosyncratic – try them on and buy the ones that fit best. Thanks for reading! SB
