A bomber jacket – beefy, warm, shearling collar, hits around the waist – is one of the coolest jackets a man can wear.
It’s masculine, edgy, and can be worn for a variety of occasions as temperatures continue to drop.
Here’s three examples from my wardrobe.
1. Luxury Biker
Despite all of the “dandy” affectations trending during these early years of menswear’s new popularity, the most effective outfits in men’s style will always be the simple ones.
This casual look, for example, is sharp and evokes a little edge, but it’s only a few simple pieces.
It’s all about the details: body-conscious fit, subtle color coordination, contrasting textures, precision grooming, etc.
Of coure, it doesn’t hurt to have quality pieces as well, like this cashmere/angora sweater by Swedish brand Nudie Jeans and beautiful wool/leather biker jacket by Parisian brand Sandro.
Although it isn’t obvious in these particular photos, there was a subtle proportion play I wanted to highlight in this look.
A long t-shirt under a short sweater can create an interesting silhouette that is very slightly out of the ordinary in menswear.

should the G1 jacket sits right above waist when zipped? I recently bought a vintage one and the armpit sits fairly snugged, also jacket length ends right above waist line. Aside from that it fits like a skinny fit jacket I got nothing to complain about.
Is that how the jacket should fit?
All time favorite bomber jacket but those are so rare to find. You know of any sites that may be selling?

I’m wondering what the style is called when you like a worn (stone washed) look, textured casual, kind of retro looking banana republicanish look?
Question for the SB team and readers – I found a killer dark brown leather jacket at my local thrift shop. Should this jacket only be donned on brown leathers day (shoes, belt, watchstrap, etc.), or could it go with black leathers? I think I know the answer, just wanted to see what others thought.

I loved your braces. But how to buy braces and suspenders? Any tips ?
Most of them are adjustable (one size fits all). Is that what you’re asking?
This may or not help but in the UK, button-held suspenders are not the easiest items to acquire on the high street – Austin Reed sell them online for £30-40, though black leather only. M&S have sold them but not right now. A good men’s vintage shop may have more interesting ones – I know Rob The Dog in Brighton does (£12 – http://www.flickr.com/photos/bluebeart/7202644692/).

My grandfather was a Lancaster bomber is the British Royal Air Force in WWII. Not only is the bomber jacket (obviously, heavily influenced by the classic American design) a fantastic piece of casual, working/practical clothing….it is also timeless style.
The second bomber jacket is classic. I think it would mix up very nicely with a grey or cream coloured roll neck sweater.
The trousers from the 3rd outfit are extremely dapper. I like the hem (or is it a heavily creased and starched turn-up?) at the bottom of the trouser leg.
All 3 looks are totally on point.

I never actually noticed the McQueen boots were a black captoe shoe melded with a brown boot! No wonder you like them so much- so cool.
I like the look of the rear trouser adjusters, and I really love (typically) vintage pants with details like that (I’m wearing a pair right now though they don’t have that exact detail)- but why on a custom garment? Does it allow for a better fit through the seat?
This particular pair is made with a plain waistband (no belt loops) so I designed them with the rear adjuster just in case. Although they’re custom made for me, sometimes my waistline can vary a half inch or so depending on my level of indulgence.
Not a big deal since I tend to wear these with braces most of the time anyway…because of the old-school houndstooth fabric I think.

Excellent post. Trousers in shot three are truly incredible. Recommendation to all stylish gentlemen is to add heel protectors to the front and back of their shoes in order to better protect their investments. Shoe threes are also imperative to retain the sharp shape of the shoes.
