2. That 70s Coat
The 70′s are back baby!
This is the warmest overcoat I own. A super-wide-wale corduroy with a heavy quilted lining and goat hair trim. It’s so warm that with a hat and scarf I’m at risk of sweating on an average winter day.
Over a double-breasted flannel suit, it’s nice and cozy.
Similar to a classic camel overcoat, the neutral color of this piece allows for a nice contrast over a dark suit.
I’ve had these wingtips since my junior year of college (when I was a hardcore eBay hustler and traded for them on the cheap).
More than 5 years later they’re looking and feeling better than ever. That’s why you invest $300+ (or put in the time to seek out a good deal) for a well-made pair of shoes.

Ha! Coat #2 is now mine!
Impeccable outwear here Dan.
Kudos on the savvy, modern title post! Ha.
Always worth the read and greatly inspiring.
Holy goat! killer coat in second set. I found a killer coat once thrifting, but had to give it away when I gained weight years ago. The happy/unhappy ending is that I’ve lost a lot of the weight and could probably fit it now, but alas the coat is gone.
Love all the looks and especially those black leather wingtips!
dan, on point as usual. that DG coat can be turned inside out and double as a throw rug! Haha
Dan (or anyone reading the comments), regarding the coat in Look 1: do you know what the buttons’ function is on the zipped hood? As a kid I had a coat with a similar hood with snap-buttons; never knew why they were there.
amazing coats, really love the parka.
Love all the looks, but that last coat is AMAZING! I’ve been pondering heading to a custom suit shop I know to get a blazer made with contrasting sleeves, so this is good food for thought.
Thanks as always for the inspiration.
Dan, fresh as usual, but that 2nd coat…WOW, please drop some info on that my man. That is perhaps the most swagged out piece you have in your winter wardrobe! At least from what you have put on here…flawless…
Thanks Jordan. We have some really good heavy-winter gear coming up.
Check lower in the comments for a little backstory on the D&G cord piece.
Cheerio.
Yeah, I love a good winter coat.
Would like to see some more varieties.
Love coat # 2 and 3.
Great post Dan… thanks!
The military green coat looks like something I’d see the ESL kids here in Vancouver wearing. Definitely not professional, if that’s the look you were going for. A Burberry or Tom Ford would be much better suited.
The contrast is what I like about the look. Comparing a vintage parka with a Tom Ford overcoat is just silly.
Thx for reading.
My gut tells me I should be totally offended by your ‘ESL kids’ comment, unless I totally misunderstood your intention.
English as a Second Language? Offended because of ostensible xenophobia?
Is it ostensible? I can’t really tell? It maybe seems like John is saying that the people who don’t speak English as their first language wear less dressy jackets over their suits. Not sure if that’s what he’s trying to say, or if it’s offensive either way. In any case I really wish I spoke another language. I’m trying to teach myself Spanish at the moment but, no está funcionando muy bien.
Holy. Crap. That second coat is amazing!
It’s a beast. Thanks player.
That camel coat is one of the best I’ve ever seen!
I like the parka over suit/jacket look too! It’s a stylish and less formal way to stay warm!
Absolutely love the look #2. The vintage coat, the dope double breasted suit paired with a colorful shirt and some nice shoes, golden! I also love the tie in look #3! Keep up the good work!
Its been cold as balls here in NS as well. I admit I have been lazy just wearing my “Patagucci” down jacket without giving it a second thought, it time I bring my game back up to snuff. Thanks for the inspiration.

That green military coat is killer.
Damn that Dolce & Gabbana coat is absolutely beautiful. Did you recently buy this? I don’t recall it being featured before.
A friend gave it to me a couple years ago after losing a bunch of weight post hockey career.
He bought it sometime in the late 90s to stay warm traveling to games – in proper game-day dress code, of course.
Cheers.
man, great come up. Good info, always good to have some history! Still in awe my man
