Winter Whites

3. Antiqued Leather

22

A casual weekend spent kickin’ it with the guys doesn’t have to look sloppy or boring.

This is essentially your every man’s “t-shirt and jeans” look, just slightly updated. The fits are tailored and topped off with a wicked asymmetrical leather piece (that I found on a sample sale floor at 90-something percent off).

Not all jeans are made from denim. These are wool flannel and they’re one of my favorite pairs in the winter.

Lastly, black leather sneakers in a classic shape are a smart investment for weekends and nights out.

3 excellent looks.Probably one of the strongest posts in my opinion. Keep up the good work. You guys keep going from strength to strength

  • Nando

Love the third look. I guess it’s just much more the way I dress. I’m not a suit guy and my daily outfits often revolve around a clean look of jeans/chinos with a well fitted shirt or t shirt. Even though I just turned 40, I can’t get into the sophisticated look of suits and loafers. The shoes/sneakers are what I’m all over. Dan, I know you’re a recovering sneaker head, but what are your thoughts on wearing sneakers like those black ones you’re wearing with many of my daily looks? Am I getting too old for them? I just can’t seem to get away from them.

Number two here is one of your best. If that’s not timeless dressing, I don’t know at all what is. With a twist, of course.

  • Shawn

I don’t know if you guys bought some new camera gear recently but I think what stood out more than the outfits themselves is the sharpness of the pictures! They look very good, I don’t remember your last pictures to be that clear and crisp!

    Labour day, eh?

I KNOW THAT THE NEW FASHIONABLE THING FOR MEN IS TO WEAR SHORT JACKETS.
HOWEVER, I VISIT THIS BLOG TO SEE TIMELESS MENS STYLE, AND TEACHING MEN TO WEAR HIGH JACKETS IS NOT A GOOD THING BECAUSE THAT LOOK BARELY EVEN FLATTERS DAN.

THERE ARE SOME FADS MEN SHOULD NOT BUY INTO, SHORT JACKETS IS ONE. WEARING CRISP WHITE JEANS IS GREAT AND UNIQUE AND DAN DOES IT VERY WELL…. THEY LIGHTEN UP A GLOOMY DAY…. HOWEVER THAT JACKET JUST MAKES HIM LOOK SHORT, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE HIS PANTS ARE CRISP SNOW WHITE, AND HIS JACKET STANDS OUT MORE.

DAN I AM A FAN, BUT PLEASE PROMOTE MORE TIMELESS TRENDS IN MENS FASHION…..

    • HI JAMES!

I agree about many men wearing jackets too short currently.

This one, however, I consider a classic, timeless length.

Out of curiosity, how would you describe the proper length of a jacket, in your opinion?

      • Brian

        HAHA SWEET!

        • JAMES

i guess be really dont have any beef, believe me if you gave me that jacket i would wear it with pride, i am similar to your size only i am 5’11.

you should do a post on trends that people take too far….or trends that you don’t like it might be controversial but i would like to read it.

Also i always wanted to ask why do you never wear 3 button jackets, or blazers? I know that they are hard to pull off because they can be a bit boxy, but i recently had one tailor made, navy with silver buttons from my alma mater, and i never fasten the top button, only the middle one, and its fitted and people give me complements all the time because its unique and classic and people are not wearing them. thanks

To my eye the first look, the jacket looks around the right length to be considered a classic fit. The second look it looks a bit shorter than the “classic” fit to me, but not offensively so.

I don’t like shorter jackets either, nor do I like it if they become too long. Given a choice, I would take slightly shorter over too long. Just cuz if it is too long, it can look a bit sloppy.

    #1 is dope. Great look.

  • Josua

That first look is ace, definitely one of the best ones you’ve posted the last weeks
    Keep it up! :)

  • Tjay

Love how you have a look interpreted for different situations that different people can relate to for their own style. The leather jacket and wool jeans is a great look to consider for a high school kid like myself.

  • Sean

I ordered a pair of those Zegna flannel jeans after seeing them in another post – hopefully they’ll arrive before it gets too warm to wear them. They looks great!

  • Sergio Arteaga

Dan, I think all the looks are great but I honestly think #3 is the best one. Laid back, simple and sharp and like you said your basic t-shirt and jeans look just updated. The leather jacket is great as well. I’m still on the fence about leather jackets myself as I don’t think I can pull them off.

    • Thanks Sergio.

      Why not?

      • Sergio

Because you’ve seen me, I’m not the smallest guy lol. It’s still one of the few items that I feel I can’t pull off but at the same time it’s a look I’ve ever tried to pull off. I think I need to definitely try it, this was how I was about Double Breasted Jackets until I finally tried it. Any advice about the fit regarding leather jackets for bigger guys like me? I know alterations can be extremely expensive and not all know how to work with leather.

        Thanks Dan!

“Remember, less is more. Complement, don’t distract.” Thank you Dan! This whole current “clothing gets weirder” trend is ridiculous.

    • I don’t think clothing is getting weirder, necessarily, I think men who are new to “fashion” are getting more confident and adventurous when it comes to style.

It takes time to learn refinement and subtlety.

      Thx for reading Jack.

  • Jordan

all the looks are great, but the last look is very well put together!
Dan you should have busted out the Concords for that fit!

  • Brady

I am also very into the grey/brown combo, they compliment each other very nicely in almost any hue. Here in the Midwest (small town Indiana), people are not used seeing white pants, so it takes some care when putting together outfits to make sure they are not too “in your face.” A dark jacket is a great way to take edge off and still keep it classy. When done right, like look 1, they are just too sharp to keep in closet. Great inspiration Dan and thanks to the TSB team!

  • Ace F.

    Style #1 is awesome.
Brown shoes really suits white pants.

    I have a question btw.
Scarfs should be worn by the neck or is it ok to be worn by the collar?
