Hey Wes I remember reading that you got that jacket but the sleeves were too short. There is a trick to lengthening the sleeves on wool jackets. I have done it recently with huge success. You might need to do one sleeve at a time to make it easier.
What I did was soaked the arms of my jacket in water, then hung it over a door and clipped it at the top. I then took a wooden pant hanger and clipped it on the bottom of the sleeve at the cuff. I then attached a weight to the hook end of the hanger and let it dry. This way is stretches out the sleeve as it dries. You will get a good 2-3 inches out of a wool jacket like that.
Very clever. Another solution is having a tailor ad a 2-3″ ribbed cuff, sewn to the interior of the sleeve end.
Cheers.
The ribbed cuff definitely works for a lot of jackets but this process is something I’ve done recently to some chambray shirts I had that were great other than the sleeves being too short as well.
Also to answer the question of who did it best today its definitely a toss up between Wes and Dan but I think Dan wins because that jacket has the best color I’ve seen in a long time.
hey Jess, this was a great suggestion… I’m definitely going to try this out. After all, that is one of my favorite jackets.
Thank you!
Its quite effective especially on wool which has a tendency to shrink a lot more during the manufacturing process. Or around any heat at all. I came up with this solution because my arms are about an inch too long for most off the rack clothing that fits otherwise perfectly. I’ve done this to a few of my favorite shirts and now they are even better than before. If you try it out make sure you post some photos of it. If you want you can send me an email and Ill send you some photos of my process so you can see how I did it.
Dan, love the jacket, awesome for the awkward winter/spring time. Can only fault the watch, fashion watches are for women, it would be nice to see something respectable on here (I do think that Dan’s timewalker with a nato strap is a nice attempt to bridge the gap between fashion watches and ‘proper’ watches). You can thrift some really good watches if you know your stuff.
Damn,
The competition in the TSB office is just Paul Pierce right now,the Truth!
Towni, Wes , Dan, Alex. 1st glance
Wes, Towni, Dan, Alex, 2nd glance
Dan, Towni, Wes, Alex, Final count (that Bomber is Paul Pierce and ties the whole outfit together)
love when our readers throw in basketball references
Towni is my choice.
Wow, I usually never vote on those thing, I don’t like competition, plus you guys always look super sharp. But today I’m voting for Dan!
Towni, Alex and Wes I believe are all wearing at least one execessive layer. Seriously guys, I’m sweating just looking at you :-P
Wonderful Wes for the inspired layering.
TOWNI. Where did you get that topcoat? Camelhair? Digging the ribbed cuffs and details BIGTIME!
Towni. I love the jacket. Where did you get it?
Wes. Love the combination in color.
Quick question. Why dont you let everyone vote with the poll like you use for the contest?
wes minus the jacket’s color
God of style Dan Trepanier wins the game today.
By the way, from where did you bought that lovely rainbow jacket ?
Dan gets it today.
It’s Towni’s match today. I love that tie; where’s it from?
dan straight murdered the game, best navajo print look I have ever seen.
also towni that shirt you always layer over a dress shirt and tie is it the gant rugger denim western shirt?
Dan, you killed it this time.KO punch with that jacket!
Townsend
Woah Wes nailed it!
All about layering I see. NYC is a tad chilly so a good move. But, for me, the inner layers should not hang lower than the ones that comes over it. When it does, you look like a adolescent kid who’s rebelling against what his mum says. As for a shirt over a shirt (Towni) that’s simply odd.
I would have voted for Alex, but that shirt, while awesome, is too long for him!
But I still can’t decide between Townsend and Wes! Love the layering and the details on both! I’m leaning slightly towards Towni though!
And yeah, Dan’s jacket is awesome!
Gotta say Wes, I like mostly how he featured that jacket in a past post (thrift one even?)
Townsend’s killing it.
Towni is killing it today! With Wes in 2nd….Keep ‘em coming. I think this WIWT segment is brilliant. I’m often inspired.
DAN!!!
Towni
Towni – straight off a Milanese street! awesome, satorialist target
Wes – a close second this time, but respect your choices most times
Dan – i would give that jacket away pronto, clown-esqe! so bad, but maybe in 20 years it will be cutting edge though
Alex – sorry mate, not in the game
Wes! All day
Towni all the way bro!
Tonwni looks classy…the colors are just right…..not too much.
townsend
Wes looks awesome in this one. that jacket is top
Wes
Dan.
I need that jacket.
Towni.
Townsend
Dan, Navajo FTW
Towni
Dan look better overall.
Dan
Wes.
Tie between Towni and Dan. Towni’s look is the classiest. Dan’s has the best of the three casual looks – totally cool and comfortable. I think Wes and Alex are trying a little too hard with the layering – keep it simple guys.
TOwnsend.
I want to think that you guys know what you’re talking about and for some reason I keep your blog in my googleReader, but most of the time you guys look like you have no clue how to dress. Towni gets consistently closest to semi-normal but even he seems like he’s trying too hard.
Alex, most of the time you look like a homeless goofy. Wes, you just look like you never had a woman explain how fashion works, and Dan, your consistent “overthetopness” makes you seem too flamboyant and unnecesarily attention drawing. Also, loose the beard.
you hurt my feelings, my mom taught me how to dress! =[
So many things suspect about this comment, but thanks for the support Andrew. We appreciate being in your google reader.
Goofy always looks homeless, and he STRAIGHT KILLS IT.

This made me laugh out loud at work. My coworkers now think I’m crazy. Thanks, Alex. Hahaha.
I think you missed the mark, my friend. 1 million pages views a month doesn’t happen by chance. They’re 4 of the best dressed guys in America. You sound like James White tellin’ Melo that he doesn’t know how to create seperation. Uneducated. Stay classy, Andrew.
not saying i necessarily agree with what he’s saying, or the way he said it, but don’t you think there is something to be said with a little conservative-ness on occasion?
also, beard is cool. :D keep it.
The trolls have arrived. That just means this blog is doing exceptionally well! Keep up the good work! :)
Just because someone disagrees and voices an opinion that the outfits aren’t much chop doesn’t mean he’s trolling or whatever the term is. There’s room for differing views. Style is intensely personal and just because these dudes feature in a style blog doesn’t mean they get it ‘right’ every time. I love reading this blog and it has really inspired me but at times I reckon the outfits are pretty ordinary.
I agree with Andrew. Out of the above pictures, Towni is the only one that is dressed well (and typically is). I guess I would give Wes an ‘OK’ since he doesn’t look rediculous. I completely agree with Dan’s “overthetopness” as most of his outfits scream, “hey I am the guy that is trying way too hard to stand out” ..instead of just looking good. ..And then there is Alex.. and I don’t even want to comment. I could put something better together from my Dad’s Carhart collection.
Carhartt can be dope!
Harsh dude. You made generalized statements about how they basically do not know how to dress well and that’s so far off the point. I don’t like everything they’ve worn but I do acknowledge they’ve displayed some killer outfits / pieces; I’m surprised you can’t do the same.
DAN.
YES, DAN.
Townsend
Townis over shirt pleases me
Alexs pants fit and look perfect
Wes loving the attention to detail at the wrists
Dans BOOM jacket
I’ll have to say The Town
Towni’s got his hands both pockets. Why? Cuz he showed up with pocket Aces today….get those chips pushed into the middle, fellas. Game, set, match.
Dan takes this one. Big fan of Pendleton items and it always makes my day to find a nice vintage Pendleton shirt, tie or jacket, and this one looks great.
Wes for me today – love the look of the jacket but given I am 6’3″ I am afraid to wear one lest I look like one for real!
Alex because he literally made me laugh out loud (and because the beat-up sneaker with tailored pants combo is killer).
Dan’s jeans are not that flattering imo. I don’t know why. I guess I’m more of an APC-ish guy when it comes to jeans. But his bomber is killer. But Alex won this one.
Towni, mainly for the coat.
Towni!
easily Dan, everyone else is excessively layered imo
I don’t think you understand how cold it was this morning.
Dan for sure.
1-Dan – love the color pop
2-Wes
3-Towni
4-Alex
Wes. I want those boots.
Wes and Towni again for the win.
Dan’s bomber also killed it!
Dan, dude!
Dan, then Towni
Alex. The cuffed flannels (?) with the beat up vans.
Wes
Towni. Bring on Spring!
Wes.
Towni, where’s the tie dimple?? :)
I reallyyy wanna go with Towni. I mean the guy is killing it today with the layering and white jeans.. BUT whenever I saw Dan’s Navajo-print bomber I got instantly mind-fu**ed by those colors. Too cool. Dan wins.
Towni then Dan, Wes and Alex!
Wes is the man in this one, what size is that lumberjack jacket btw?
it’s a Medium Omar, sleeves are a slight bit short.
Thanks, I remember that from the art of thrifting post haha :)
Wes – Towni (not 1st because of the white pants, sorry) – Dan (too much colors, sorry) – Alex (thanks to the ugly shoes, sorry man)
towni’s just crushing it today
