The SB Team presents: Episode 1!
It was a little tricky finding the correct balance between behind-the-scenes “reality show” and instructional styleblogger post.
Keep in mind, we are a couple guys with one camera, and the videos will only get better with time – as the posts have.
Looking forward to reading your comments.
Make sure to set the video to HD before watching (At the bottom right side of the video screen)
Yours in style,
SB

Dont know how i missed this video but just watched it.. This the start of something great. Not a lot of people with your knowledge have the opportunity to share it. I found it personally interesting based on how much i could relate to your story. GREAT JOB
You’re an inspiration.
I’ve only recently stumbled upon your blog and I’m absolutely loving it.
I love how your video tries to do a “a day in the life of…” concept and at the same time incorporating styling tips somewhere along the way.
I personally don’t mind the length, contrary to some comments in here. But I do agree that each ep should have a different story to it (and yea, i absolutely get that this is an intro ep with the whole feel of “more things to come”lol)
Thank you for the inspiration. Hope you get to read this though.
PS. you’re hot.
Great for video.
Congrats from Brazil.
Hope to se the next you.
SB,
Another great post. I’m honestly excited for this series to get rolling. This adds a whole different dimension to your blog. I love the instrumentals used in the beginning and at the end of the video. Keep up the great work!
Yours Truly,
Rei Fernandez

Great job
I’ve noticed some of the pictures on your older posts aren’t showing up anymore. Is there a reason for this?
Great video, I’ve enjoyed reading your blog and I was looking forward to your video a lot. I just really want to say one thing, that turtleneck bulky sweater you wore, amazing print and it looked great. The red vest, not so much. You kinda gave off the 15-year-old trying to dress styly by picking up an expensive down vest, which in reality doesn’t look good vibe.
No offence intended, but it just isn’t my style. Though to be fair, who cares what I think? I think you are confident enough to pull it off.
I’m impressed. You definitely encompassed that NY lifestyle and vibe which I love. I would have to say that the best part about the video is that you have kept true to what you’ve purposed this site for. Awesome job! Keep it coming:) Can’t wait to see more…
SB, the video was fantastic in HD. Keep it up. I’m with Brendan and see an entertainment outlet in your future. This is the first non-political blog I’ve been able to really connect with. Suede lace-ups with the flat front Khakis in the video were fantastic.

Wow i must say im really stoked about the video
Dan,
What can I say? The quality of this episode is very good! I enjoyed it. I was just wondering, as I love the morning, and revel in its glories often; what di you drink for coffee in the morning, out of curiosity? I take a local estate roast and have the barista pull two short shots of espresso Steamed almond kilk, agave. I drink teo of those while i catch up on emails and news in morning.
A tad bit of topic, but yi lthe tyle of the video was great, anf t is really appreciated that you have a vibrant attitude which refkects in your work, more so ion video than photos,
Joey Dee
Yummy..
Hey SB,
Great video, I love the fact that you added a different dimension to your blog.
Also, the pieces you picked out for the shoot are awesome, the different textures, colors, layers… you nailed it!
Keep the episodes coming in the same format, I don’t think it has that “reality show” thing, it’s a different vibe, definitely fresh though!
Take care.
Dan,
Keep up the great work. This video was great, I love to see how you incorporate things that most people wouldn’t think of putting together. Very cutting edge with the video posts.
Dan,
I see some of your other readers have suggested you spend money to improve future videos. You don’t have to spend a dime. Not sure if you saw my last comment (which was up for a while but now gone). I’ll send you that email I mentioned.
- Ted
i’ve got the same bracelet with the saints, nice to see it on your wrist
Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. This dude Dan just gets it. Keep Up The Good Work Homie.
Mate just when I thought your blog couldn’t get better. Series is amazing. Cant wait for next one.!
amazing video & fresh style bro!
im definately telling all my friends about this blog!
SB,
Loved the video! You have a fanstastic ability to nail every detail in the ensembles you displayed. I feel this puts you in league of your own. I find inspiration in the growth and progression of your blog. Continued success in 2011! Keep it pushing!
Due to the terrible NYC weather, I was very close to just throwing on a hoodie this morning…but this video definitely inspired me to stay fresh. Good stuff SB!
Congratulation great vid
Awesome work.
I can’t wait for the next episode!
I get so much inspiration from you. So glad I found your site, it has helped me in the most unbelievable ways!! I have gained confidence to be myself and even started my own blog
http://universityfashion.blogspot.com/
Waiting for the next post already!!!
UF
Dope shit! I’m really appreciating the progression here with your site. The video was really cool in a sense of being instructional/reality based, it seemed very authentic. Bravo! Keep up the good work, I look forward to what’s next!
Thought it was great! Keep up the good work and I look forward to the next episode.
Nice work. I’m a devoted fan of your blog. With the videos, a few thoughts…
Don’t sweat the details, but you gotta find your voice. You’re a dude passionate about style. Keep that as a guide. Whether it tips toward reality show or style advice, scripted or candid, it’s less important than finding a way to convey your enthusiasm and passion for the subject matter. You could do a whole show on how to fold a t-shirt: if you’re committed to it, I mean 100% into folding that t-shirt, it’ll come across and we’ll be hanging on every word.
No matter how short the film, there’s always a story arc. Right at the start, tell your viewer what to expect to see at the end. Build anticipation towards that. Here, the culmination is the Atrium photo shoot. Tell us about Atrium right from the get go, and what awesome things you’re about to do with their clothes.
If you’ve got a guest on, have a closeup shot as one of the first images of him/her. It serves well to introduce them to your viewer. Naturally, choose a flattering composition and lighting.
With the photo shoot montage: it’s all about appealing to the senses. Go all out, make images that drip with sexy and fashion indulgence.
Above all else, make bold decisions.
I critique because I love. I expect to see the best from your team because I know it will happen!
A greeting from Asia :D
Your Blog’s been very nice. I’ve been checking it everyday recently, and it keeps getting better.
Look forward to your next post ;)
I have some observations as well.
- If you interacted more to the camera like Larry David does in Whatever Works by Woody Allen, maybe it would be a little more ‘personal’ to the viewer.
= The quality of the video is ok for me but the lenght perheaps is a little too much. 10 minutes have a lot of material.
= As a suggestion to the suggestion before [hehe] perheaps you could do two types of video: one ‘big’ – as in 10 minutes detailed; or one about a picture you took – like 5 min short with different aproaches to the same photo or what composes that look.
= The sound on the street isn’t too good. Perheaps it should be only narrated or if much, live recording only indoors, like in a store or that part on the street store early on the video.
I don’t know, but those are my opinions. Sure, it’s nice, but as well as you guys, I also would like to see this blog keeping better and better each and every day!!!
Kind regards all the way from brazil,
Leon
Personally I like the length. It gives it much more of a reality feel, something that we can connect with the film and what he is telling us. I gives us a real behind the scenes feeling.
I am sure though as you said it will only get better as have his posts
So the boot tuck is SB approved? Do you not tuck it sometimes?
Great video, might be a good idea to try to find a noise-proof room and a better mic though. Other than that mad props.
You’re on another level, Dan. Kudos and keep up the great work!
This series seems like a pretty ambitious project. Looks like you’re off to a good start, and as you said the videos should only improve over time. That said, I do have a few points of criticism. I haven’t read the other posts yet so I don’t know if anyone else voices similar concerns.
The biggest problem with this video is the picture clarity. You don’t necessarily need to be in hi-def, but not sharpening the picture will make your expert blog come off as amateur. A blurry video takes viewers’ attention away from details of the clothing. People come here for fashion tips. In this video, you upstage your clothing because of poor picture quality.
Secondly, this video is just too long. I’m not sure every visitor will want to devote nearly ten minutes to watching video posts.
One last question: what do you have to gain from these video posts? I was definitely satisfied with your blog as it was before. If this project proves too time-consuming, I could go without a weekly video post. I really question the profitability of these episodes, although maybe the filming process is genuinely fun.
If you do continue with these videos, make sure not to change your music choices too much. The song choices in your first video were great and so was the Kanye sample at the end of this one. Good luck.
For Hi-Def quality, click on the resolution number (probably set to “240p” on your computer) and simply click hi-def. And i don’t think the videos are going to be weekly…
Not sure I agree on the length. I know the general rule of thumb for a YouTube video is 3 to 5 mins, but he’s trying for something a little more grand then that. Wouldn’t go any longer then what it is now (as in this is the max), but I think he’s ok.
As for profitability, I think you should look at it as a long term investment. Dan is branding himself and these videos help his reputation and spread his name. Plus they help set him apart from all the other men’s style related blogs.
All i have to say is keep it going!
BTW, where is your black peacoat from? I’m loving the style!
Hey man,
Couple things…
1) Seriously, how great is that Club Monaco duffle coat? I’ve been wearing mine like crazy this winter.
2) When are you gonna bust out your mad piano skills?
3) How do you possibly fit ALL your clothes in that closet? I’d love to see a video post on your closet organization. I, too, live in a big city, and space can be an issue for storing anything, really.
PS- I know you did a post a while back where you installed that closet organization rack on one of the walls in your apt. I was just hoping for something more in-depth.
Thanks, homie!
I was thinking, it’s okay to break the rules….long as you know them first. Brown and black works because you know it’s not suppose to….good choice.
Love the video, Dan! Thanks for the Dermagenics Shout-out! You make me want to quit my day job and start something like this for ladies. Looks like fun.
Great video. I enjoyed it. Quality could have been a bit better but overall it was great delivery. Looking forward to seeing more.
love your bracelets and fancy gold pin. also enjoy reading your blackberry email. you certainly have a good sense of humor and you can type really fast. you should do scenes from next week to wet my apetite for whats to come
hey dan.
fresh shit as usual. i was wondering if maybe you could start a tangent blog or something of the sort relating to stylish pet-wear. i know a lot of fashionistas like myself share two passions- clothes and pets. don’t leave out my pooch!!!!! could you maybe do a styledogblog– think about it!!!
much love
you should invest in a tripod and a microphone. the mic not necessarily for walking around with or anything but for the voice overs for sure.
Cool vid. Thanks for the work. It dragged a bit and I didn’t get the theme of the vid until the very end. Try to make the theme very obvious from jump… Just something constructive. Thanks again!
awesome work. just a question, from now on are you combining the written posts with videos, or doing separates? will they be related to each other?
HA! You have the EXACT same desktop wallpaper as I do!
Great first video. The beige/brown vest is fantastic.
Great video Dan!
It’s nice to see what a day in the life of the style blogger entails. I think you’ll create a closer relationship with your readers this way. Just one suggestion, maybe make the video a little shorter? Either way, great work.
Here are some rhymes you can close the clip with man…i know you got it in you.
I was just living on a farm
I never came out the barn
Cows and mules ruled everything around me
Cows milk did not make me
Played ball in Detroit’s playgrounds
My legend is still so astound
Got my Ivy League degree in the NYC
Haters know all about me
I hustled and struggled in the 212
You could do it if you had my swagger too
Contest was won, Esquire you know me
For those that feel me, you know there is only one
Followers keep on me
Designers fear me
My line is coming out
and I shout, you know it’s time to respect it
Store aint even seen it
But they drooling about it…
Yeah..
Wannabe fuckyeahmenswear rap/10.
Word son.
Awesome video, love that cable knit cardigan.
Good job!
Keep going…
I am pretty sure designers are going to come across this video somehow and it will definitely be great promotion material (the series) cause the designers will be able to see you in real-time before even meeting you.
Sick idea.
- Jack
ekk I meant lapel. you don’t have to post this one.
Great job on the first vid!!!! I thought it was a little long but other than that a lot of useful information. BTW I LOVEEEEEEE the very masculine mirror in your room, and I did notice the close up of the label decoration!!! I’m catching what you are throwin out, LOL! Till your next post.

good job Dan…I was just checking out Caufield Prep last night.
Great work of art Dan.
I never get tired of watching videos of you.
Great first video, Dan. One suggestion. Consider listing all the items you wear similar to what you do on your normal posts.
sweet. doin work son.
Fantastic video! Love reading your site, keep up the great work.
The brown belt with black boots seemed like a strange choice, but overall I enjoyed this very much.
Thanks Zac. The boots are brown.
Best,
Dan
A great start! I hope that in future episodes you might feature some tips and outfits that are more business-oriented, as that is what most guys have the most trouble with.
Sick video again. Just wondering, are those black boots from the beginning Kenneth cole reaction night hunt? Or are they the ones you’re doing for the giveaway?
I was interested in purchasing the night hunt but read reviews of how the little holster on the back popped off with a small tug, and those metal things fell off easily as well.
Hey KLEE. The KC boots in the first outfit are brown. The style name is “Mountain Bike”. I have been wearing them a fair amount this winter (in a rotation of about 10-12 boots) and haven’t had any problems with them.
Thanks for reading.
-Dan
That was terrific! If the rest are this good – it’ll be success all the way. Key was the “advice” part of the effort – something I really appreciate.
Best wishes!
I loved your video and great style, looking forward to see how you style those great clothes.
Excellent work SB, keep them coming!
Lots of great tips in there for those who pay attention.
Glad to hear that you’ll keep your integrity, and only feature products that you really stand by. That’s the only way to get trust and appreciation from your followers ;)
Great episode, can’t wait for the next ones.
Have you thought about publishing it in iTunes too, or maybe just a feed for iTunes users. Would be a great way to get the videos as soon as they are published, and straight on the devices that a lot of people carry with them.
The day in life of Style blogger… I dig it man.
I love it! the video perfectly put together and i enjoyed peeking in at a day in your life. i’m looking forwards to many more of these videos.
by the way, do you mind telling me the brand that had contacted you?
thanks
-erick
I see a TV show coming soon! Killin it man great work
Loved it. Keep it up.
I like how the denim jacket goes with the hoodie.
Last year did a prediction that they’ll come back in style.
Great job!!! Loving this idea! I had something similar in mind, but never went through with it..
Anyways keep it up SB!
Hope you and your readers can stop by my menswear blog and show some love also!

Thanks and keep warm!
