New York Fashion Week can be an intimidating, and sometimes hilarious, style scene.
Although the days of hardcore peacocking have, well, peaked, I would still consider it the best time to pull-off unexpected or experimental pieces.
I was traveling from LA to NYC, then on to Toronto for some consulting work, so I tried to keep it simple but pack a couple statement pieces.
Here’s three outfits that I wore during our NYFW, and a brief recap of our trip.
1. Meetings and Pre-Game
Our first day in town consisted of several meetings with advertisers and web developers, followed by the #FallClassicNYC: a streetball game between menswear bloggers and influencers.
I’m typically a very light traveler (one carry-on duffle only) so I try to pack basic items that I can wear several times throughout my trip (like neutral pocket tees, black jeans, and penny loafers).
For Fashion Week I threw in a couple pieces that I’ve been itching to wear but haven’t found the right occasion. For example; this vintage silk print jacket from the 80′s.
This thing is straight from somebody’s grandma’s closet (it even had velcro-removable shoulder pads), but I was immediately drawn to the print when I saw it hanging in an NYC vintage shop.
I’ve also been obsessed with silk lately. I think it’s the most underrated fabric in menswear. On the low, I may be designing a small collection of exclusive silk pieces for men through a connect in Thailand…
Black penny loafers are a go-to for traveling.
They’re comfortable, easy to slip on and off, and they can be worn with anything from casual or formal.
