Welcome to the new TSBmen.com!

Take some time to familiarize yourself with our new elements, such as the infinite scroll that makes it easy to find any article in the archives, the new TSBmen Newsletter, the updated commenting system, and of course the new & improved STYLE GUIDE

Special thanks to David Petr and the development team at 28 Niche for all their hard work over the past few months. This is only the foundation for the bigger things to come!

——————————————————————–

For the first post on the new site, we’re going ALL NAVY EVERYTHING.

Navy blue is the most versatile color in menswear. It’s flattering on any skin tone and is culturally  “accepted” in even the most conservative and formal environments.

I have one of each of the basic menswear garments in solid navy blue, and wear them all regularly. Here I put some of them together to prove that a navy monochromatic look is one of the smoothest moves you can make. It’s rich, elegant, and badass.

Here’s three examples to get you thinking…

The dark-on-dark colors might be a little aggressive for a day at the office, but it’s a great look for an evening out (cocktail party, nightclub, lounge) or a semi-formal event (wedding, theatre, fancy restaurant).

Speaking of dressing appropriately for the occasion, check out our new and improved Style Guide to find outfit inspiration for any season, occasion, or clothing item in your wardrobe.

A monochromatic look puts more emphasis on the blending of fabrics and textures. Here, for example, I’m working with a cotton/linen blend (shirt), a fuzzy flannel (tie), a sleek worsted (suit), and a raw hemp/silk (overcoat).

Subtlety is the new flashy. Which, in my opinion, is a sign of a growing taste level at large (thanks to the internet and social sharing).

You already know how we feel about sexy dress boots. Get some.

The new site looks great! Very clean and easy to navigate!

  • Jason C

The new site looks great. One thing seems to be missing though. The TSB store. Is it closed or am I just not seeing the link?

  • Jeff McAllister

Congrats on the new site. And what a way to Christen it!

  • TO

Dan- I sent you a follow up email on what we last discussed. I found out the situation is a lot more time sensitive than I first thought, so if you could give it a look and send me your thoughts, I would really (really) appreciate it !!!

  • LouCaves

My first post on the new-look site, looks great. Congrats Team TSB

Aaaand the first feature is all about my favorite color navy. Awe, you shouldn’t have. :)

That overcoat in Look 3 is snatch-worthy. Meaning: if we were roommates it would’ve been stolen already!

    Thanks, TSB!

  • John B

Love the new design! Wish we could still select fabrics on the style guide though!
I wasn’t sure about going all navy, but it works, especially on the last two looks. The first one is awesome, but I feel it would have been even better with a white shirt. Not sure though. Congrats to Alex for the first shot, it’s one of the best ever!

That very first picture of Dan and the marble background is amazing. Hands down my new favorite from this site. Love the new look, looking forward for whats to come!

    cool stuff.

  • http://www.indochino-review.com Lorenz

Very sharp look, I’m surprised this all navy look works so well.

  • Felix

This is the sorta content I love on TSB! Amazing to see how your blog has grown since the first blog – sick progress. This is the best yet.

Big things for the boys in 2014!

  • j. Lopez

Dan and team, the website is yet another step forward in your bringing relevant menswear material to the masses. I am so grateful for your site, and what it has done for my dress and overall confidence! Stay true to yourselves and your mission, the rest will take care of itself.

  • Harvey

Love the first look! Looks straight off of Suitsupply though. Not that that’s a bad thing :)

Congratz on the new site too! Love the infiinte scroll

  • Calvin

Kudos on the new site gents! Very clean and inviting. Disqus is a nice upgrade as well. Might see more transparency in the comments.

Killing it as usual with the all Navy looks, they really highlight texture + details.

  • Jeanscuffed

This new site….MURDER! Great way to start with all navy. Something about the new layout makes the article seem clearer and crisper. And I just noticed that the comment section is in real-time. Definitely smashed the old site, and I’m definitely looking forward to more content. Good stuff!

  • Jhwendland

Very impressive site. I especially like the infinite scroll. The only thing I’d consider changing is the masthead. I like the Style Guide, Categories, etc. tabs on top, but am not a big fan of the gold text-white background combo. Maybe white text on a black background would work better. Just wanted to get my initial reaction out there before I become too accustomed to everything.

  • Adam

Awesome new look to the site. These looks are all on point, the monochromatic navy is much more approachable than the all black looks (I’ve often done something similar, but adding in one lighter blue element, like a lighter blue button up, with navy everything else). Seriously jealous of that overcoat in look #1!

  • Oscar

Classy as always, guys! Congrats on the on the new layout, it’s a real facelift. Keep up the good work!

  • JoeFromTexas

Nice way to kick off the new format. I’ve been thinking of doing some casual monochrome navy or black looks, so this hit the spot. I remember someone in high school commenting that I always wore dark clothes, and it dawned on me that black was my go to for everything, shoes, jackets, pants, etc. So I’ve avoided black and added alot of color over the many years. But I just started thinking that, maybe I was too quick to abandon the dark side. I mean, I don’t want to live there, but every now and then you know.

  • TO

All three examples here are extraordinary takes on a simple concept!

Your use of materials and textures has been on another level for a while and it continues to impress.
I have a lot of blue in my closet but am not sure if specifically I have enough navy to create a variety of outfits. It really has an added sophistication to pick the one (when it comes to clothing “perfect”) shade instead of utilizing multiple shades of blue in an outfit (which can still work well but I guess comes off a bit more casual).

In fact, because of the dominating amount of blue that I have in my closet, I have been adverse to buying anything blue in general for a little while, but this provides inspiration to me to make an exception for navy, specifically. Nice work!

So far I really enjoy the simplicity and feel of the new layout! Also like the subtle humor in the newsletter;) …$Free.99 haha

  • andres

    Awesome TBS team

  • Jay v.

Always been a lurker but thought it the best time to jump in with the new site. Digging it man. That first look is just so clean. Love that I can always find inspiration from you guys to fit into my own personal style rather than written instructions on how to dress.

  • Shawn

First of all, congrats on the new layout, it was a much needed improvement over the last layout of the website. I really like the new and improved features. Second, I really, I mean really love those looks! Something about navy on navy on navy just seems right in my book! And last, I really love the backgrounds on these photo shoots, especially the marble columns in look # 1! Really add to the ‘luxury’ feeling! Keep up the good work Dan and the TSB team!

  • Ian

Really loving the new layout Dan. Another super post!!

  • Javier

    Like the new website…..congrats

  • wistfulwriter

Congratulations on launching your new site, glad to see you used Disqus like I’d suggested a while back. Great looks all around, I’ve been on a blue/brown bender lately because I was getting bored of blue on blue all the time. It’s nice to see some inspiration on how to do monotone again.

    • http://www.TSBmen.com/ Dan Trepanier

Thanks! I’m liking Disqus so far…didn’t know the email was required. Hope that doesn’t hurt our comment numbers…

      • WideEyesTWBlog

Not positive, but I think you can post as a guest (I seem to remember doing this without an e-mail back in the day, but it’s been a while so I may be wrong).

        • Ali Naaseh

Yup, you can certainly post as a guest (I’ve done it a few times over on Effortless Gent and Style Girlfriend, when I’ve got opinions that I KNOW nobody’s gonna like…)

  • Jeremy Whitechic

The site looks splendid and the first post was gasoline clean. I’m currently also sporting navy on navy, by way of tracksuit bottoms and a thick bathrobe. On-trend, always.

Love the new website guys! The new design style guide is awesome! Can’t wait to see what else you’ve got in store over the next few months.

    • http://www.TSBmen.com/ Dan Trepanier

Khaled! Thanks brother. All the best.

  • cam

great way to kick off the new site. i am viewing from my phone and have to scroll all the way back up to click to the next look…may want to add that to the bottom as well…all the best guys!

    • cam

also, any chance you can start listing the size of the items you have linked to? i.e. the suit supply overcoat. helps those of us that have to do the majority of our shopping online ;)

      • http://www.TSBmen.com/ Dan Trepanier

Hmm. We can try to implement this. You could always just ask. In this case: Medium (it’s a touch short in the sleeves for an overcoat).

    • http://www.TSBmen.com/ Dan Trepanier

Great feedback! Working on this now.

  • Miguel

All three looks are fantastic but that overcoat on look no.1 is amazing! by the way, love the new website and commenting system.

    • http://www.TSBmen.com/ Dan Trepanier

Thanks Miguel. Nice to put a face to a name!

  • Ali Naaseh

Diggin the new site already. That first look – killer. Keep it up guys.

  • Loscv29

Killin’ ‘em wit’ dat redesign, tho!!!! Love the new site, guys!! And finally a better comment system.

    As always… great outfits.

  • Edwin C.

What a great way to launch! You guys are my go-to site for menswear advice! I owe you guys a lot!! Thanks!!

    • http://www.TSBmen.com/ Dan Trepanier

      Cheers Edwin.

  • WideEyesTWBlog

Man, I am loving this post. Monochromatic is a look I’ve always enjoyed experimenting with, and I think it’s a lot of fun to turn your attention from color-coordinating to texture-coordinating. These all came together great, but I’m a huge fan of that first look.

Also, the website is looking great! Haven’t gotten a chance to explore too much yet, but so far, I like what I see! Welcome back, haha.

    • http://www.TSBmen.com/ Dan Trepanier

Please explore and let us know what you think!

      • WideEyesTWBlog

It looks great! I dug the old design, but this is much cleaner and sharper looking! I especially like the continual scroll on the homepage, rather than having to click through pages to see older posts. The style guide is great as well, being able to cycle through the images is a nice improvement, and the general layout is very useful.

One bug though, if you are on one of the pages under the ‘Categories’ tab and try to click to a different tab (About, Contact, etc.), it’s keeping in the ‘categories/…’ part of the URL so it takes you to a ‘nothing found’ page. On that note though, your ‘nothing found’ picture is awesome, haha. One of the only times we’ve seen you in glasses? At least that I can remember. Dig it.

Besides that, I think it looks great!

      • WideEyesTWBlog

Oh! In the style guide, a ‘clear filters’ button would be really nice…I keep forgetting I have things selected (had the ‘Boots’ filter on for a while without noticing earlier today). And links to the original posts, so if we see a look we like, we can get the details!

  • Brady

Great first post on the new site! All navy everything is much more approachable than all black. That first look is too sharp. Look 3 is probably the best use of gold I’ve seen so far, well done. Cant wait to check out the features

    • http://www.TSBmen.com/ Dan Trepanier

Thanks Brady. I hope all is well.

Got some great featured guests coming up…

  • Todd Ruhnau

What a way to launch the new site! All 3 of these looks are amazing. Navy blue is so simple and versatile but when you start to mix the textures and fabrics… Ooh kill em.
