Easter weekend, regardless of your religious affiliations, is often a weekend filled with family get togethers and outtings with loves ones. Whether it’s out of respect for a higher being, or to keep up with our better halves and their excuse to wear a cute new Spring dress, it’s also a weekend synonymous with dressing “proper”.
Sartorially, it’s a great early-Spring weekend to safely introduce a little more color (specifically pastels like pinks, purples, teals, etc) than you’ve been wearing all fall.
Here, three looks that I hope will inspire you to keep the “Sunday’s Best” tradition alive.
1. Lighten Up Your Suit + A little Pink
If you’ve been debating about pulling off something colorful in your closet (a pink shirt, a purple tie, a yellow pocket square, whatever) give it a shot this Sunday – it’s a freebee since people are usually in the holiday spirit and a little less critical on Easter.
Location: Trinity Church, Wall Street & Broadway, NYC. Considered one of the oldest building in Manhattan and was originally built in 1698. (Yes, before the founding of America)
Bonus Tip: It’s officially time to lighten up your suits. Put the dark colors and heavy wools, corduroys, cashmeres, ect to the back of your closet and have your wool/mohairs, high twists, 9oz worsteds, gaberdines, etc freshly pressed for the transitional season.
Bonus Tip II: If you’re introducing some color (especially if it’s in your suiting fabric – like this grey wool/mohair with subtle pink check) make sure it’s a subdued version – not fruity or florescent.
Bonus Tip III: Tie down a light/pale outfit with some darker accessories – like a hazel tie and chocolate wingtips + watchband. This tie is actually cut from the same cloth as my (and apparently many of your) new favorite suit, featured here.
Bonus Tip IV: For whatever reason, a Spring/Summer suit often calls for contrast buttons – like dark brown horn buttons on this light grey, or white mother or pearls on a navy linen, as featured here.

i want to buy this whole suite one for me and my son
Purple suit — Chuck Bass inspired!! haha Nice
Dan,
Its been a while since i’ve commented. I must firstly thank you for doing such a fantastic job with the blog. The website’s new layout (look and feel) is nothing short of fanstastic. Having said that, the purple suit is Bananas!!! As in brilliant….Im running out of superlative here…so keep it up!
Hahah. Thanks for all the compliments Gio!
Men in the U.S.A. need to grow balls and learn to wear what THEY want and not worry about what others will have to say. Learn to wear colors and do so with confidence – trust me, women will love it. All these looks are amazing – for sure I will be incorporating some of these looks in my wardrobe. Absolutely the best website on the planet.
The purple suit was crazy. And the way you combined the checked shirt with the knittie with pocket square was serious business! All 3 looks A+ great post.
I spotted a similar bracelet to the one worn in the shoot for the purple suit at ALDO Shoes >> RHOTEN men’s bracelet http://bit.ly/ksrUID
the knit tie is something i could never do. the pale suit remains my favorite.
WOW the purple is the best by far
Schnazzy SB!….esp the purple. That takes some bells but I like where your going with it. It’s spring in NYC bitches…please dress the part.
Uno,
Mondo
Love all three looks. However, the purple suit is simply IMMACULATE!
Come on SB, you’re killing it right about now! The purple suit has taken it to an entirely new level. I jumped out of my chair when i scrolled down and saw that suit. Respect to the photographer as well! Happy Easter to all.
Be Well,
Carter
I think this is one of your best posts since I started reading your blog last fall. The Glen plaid is my favorite suit of the three. Your advice about confidence really sums up a central theme of all your posts as well; it’s something we would all do well to remember.
I am very sorry Liz and I won’t be in town for your party at MAB, but I can’t wait to see some pictures or a video here. All the best in your new venture.
Very Respectfully, Ted.
Purple suit is killer
This doesn’t have to do much with the thread but I was wondering if you were gonna do a post on “shopping on a budget “. As much as I love designer clothing, I was interested in your opinion on more affordable brands.. I see u wear a lot of RLP, which I’ve been told also makes club Monaco clothing. I’m a huge fan of the blog and most of my clothing is club Monaco, just thought I’d ask if the thought of that as a post crossed your mind.
yeah, that would be a great post. i would love to help out on that one :)(free of charge of course, seriously). i think that there is a misconception that you have to spend your whole paycheck to look great but there are so many options and alternatives. it just takes patience, creativity, and knowing the clothing market(when to buy, where to buy). you definitely can’t skimp on certain things that require a certain amount of quality. i’m not nearly as fly as our boy Dan but i always get compliments from people whose shoes probably cost more than my entire ensemble.
look two and three are a tie. both very dope.
Just an idea, you have a good point thou, you cant go cheap on some things. I never go cheap on jeans or shoes for that matter. To save cash thou i usually shop at h and m or club monaco, which i cleaned up on during one of the stores going out of business, great sales up to 70 percent off. Its weird how i just stubbled on this site last week, its an awesome blog and the clothing and style is on point in every post.
i usually never comment but i gotta give credit when credit is due !
now I admit that for a real judgment I should see the suit in real life and not on pictures but I think dan you actually pulled off a purple suit without looking like a clown or as craig said a pimp.
you have my respect sir
You Got to be a Real Man to Pull off a Purple Suit and not look like a Pimp named SlickBack!(Boondocks) lol #Beast Job Well-Done!
You said it.
A lighter-than-cobalt blue, or lighter-than-olive green, perheaps. But purple? I don’t see myself on that…
and that’s exactly why I chose it :)
thx for reading
-SB
fantastic once again! what i love most is that you wear the same watch in EVERY one of your posts. So cool
Thanks Zach
Best,
Dan
One of your best posts! You once again affirm your class, truly.
Happy Easter. I need that grey suit in my wardrobe
Thx brother!
Sweet double breaster and that gray suit is to die for. I’m liking the into of the wimmins in your posts. However, only black guys can away with purple suits.
Let’s agree to disagree.
How many words are you missing in this comment?
Beautiful gray suit. The dark brown buttons really make it. Congrats on being able to pull the purple (muave) suit off, too…I know I never could. That second last shot is very nice, btw.
That is a bad suit I love it. The pocket square with the button on it I love it. Can I have it ? j/k
Alex killed it on these photos. Great work guys!
Agreed!
Alex is an amazing photographer.
If anyone is interested in hiring him for a gig, feel free to contact us via the contact page.
Cheers,
Dan
Hey man, when are ya gonna get a new timepiece?
I have never seen him wear a quality stainless steel watch, only the Montblanc with different straps. Some people are just not “watch guys.”
You don’t consider the Montblanc quality? Interesting.
Truth is – I won an IWC Portuguese and I’ve been offered other timepieces…but the Montblanc piece has sentimental value that cannot be replaced (not to mention it’s as neutral and versatile as it gets…and I have a couple dozen bands for it).
When I was 19 years old and a freshman at Columbia I bought the Timewalker used on eBay for around $1,200 (which is a pretty damn good deal for this style). At that age, $1,200 was all the money in the world to me – literally, it was all I had in my bank account…I ate peanut butter & jelly sandwiches for 2 weeks for that thing).
It was the first “expensive” (over 1K) item I ever purchased and, at least in my mind, it represented that I was finally “making something of myself”.
That will be very hard to replace…unless one day I can break a 6-figure milestone or something :)
Cheers,
Dan
Purple suit looks so good. I’ve only ever seen purple suits on Snoop Dogg ,who’s equally as cool. However you manage not to look like a pimp and more a style G
Happy Easter

Incredible compliments on this post!
As cool as Snoop Dogg and more influential than Cary Grant? Damn, thanks everyone..I don’t know what to say
Best,
Dan
That first suit is one the best put together suits I’ve ever seen. I love the matching between the pattern, pocket square and shirt, and the tie and shoes really tones it down and ties it together. The third one is really not bad either, and the advice is great.
Thanks!
“Lastly – f*ck it! Do you and be confident about it.”
Quite possibly the greatest style advice (heck, even life advice) I have ever seen. And, yes, that purple suit is AMAZING.
By the way, I like how you picked out the holiday-appropriate bracelets. As they say, “God is in the details”…quite literally in this case.
Agreed, good life advice (within reason).
And good eye! :)
Best,
SB
Purple suit, at church, not an NBA game or a Patti LaBelle concert and you look like the shit. Cary Grant is at an internet cafe in heaven reading this post and exclaiming, “Damn son, I wish I had the balls to do that!”
Haha. What a compliment. RIP Cary Grant.
Thx for reading,
SB
You Joker! Kudos for pulling off the purple suit and not looking like a pimp or a mobster. 2nd look is on point as well. Happy Easter!
Going strong. Super impressive Dan. My favorite style blog for men.
Thx Alan!
The purple suit is SICK! I never thought about wearing one, but now its a must.
Thx!
Awesome pictures. Is the hopsack fabric sort of like tweed? Also, I’ve noticed that Armstrong & Wilson have buttons on the corner of their pocket-squares. Do you happen to know why this is?
Not really, tweed is typically a heavier staple fiber best suited for F/W. Hopsack is loose, lightweight and better for S/S.
Just a stylistic detail on the A&W squares I believe, although it does help keep a clean fold.
Thx for reading,
SB
You look like a super villain in that purple suit.
Hah. I love it. I’ve been called a “hero” and now a “villain” lol. All in the eye of the beholder.
Thx for reading.
-SB
What beautiful looks! I love that your suede/leather monks work with every outfit—even into the spring.
I was going to go easy in the morning for church.. what a foolish thought.
Also, I noticed that most of- if not all of your own design jackets have a second hip pocket on the right side. Why is this?
This is called a ticket pocket. It’s traditionally a stylish nod to country/British suits of the time period when men wanted an extra place to stash their train tickets.
Obviously, its inclusion is now no longer completely necessary, but it adds a debonair sophistication to the jacket (although it is still something the sartorially pure scoff at).
Yup. John knows his stuff. Although I’m curious what you mean by “sartorially pure”
I like the ticket pocket because it breaks up the symmetry of the lower half of the jacket, and balances the chest pocket overall.
Thanks for reading guys.
Best,
SB
Interesting… I always imagined it being for tickets to play or formal- to me that simple idea change injects an air of formality to the ticket pocket
Outstanding post btw- Dan I remember you mentioning the looming need for more closet space, that time must be getting near!
That first suit is gorgeous!
Appreciate the chutzpah involved with the purple suit as well, even though its not my cup of tea.
As usual, your style always awes and inspires me. Great work bro. The 3 looks are SICK!
Thx Lawrenzo!
-Dan
Wow, wow WOW! great post Dan…u hit the nail on the head with the “Do you, and be confident about it” comment. That purple suit is friggen Amazeballs! Never thought about wearing a purple suit….until now.
Here’s hoping u have much success with the launch of ur clothing line (which by the looks of it, u’ll have no problem)
Until ur next post…Peace out broseph
Dan H.
The fifth photo where you’re on the walk with the ray of sun hitting the camera is one of the sickest photos I’ve seen on your site. Very impressive stuff Dan. Good work and Happy Easter to your whole team!
- Mr. S
Thanks!
I agree, Alex is the man
-SB
Haha amazeballs eh.
Thank you Dan, very nice compliments.
All the best,
Dan
