Spring is around the corner, so over the next few weeks we will be highlighting some essential wardrobe staples for the season.

Today we’re highlighting the MAC: a single-breasted, 3/4 length topcoat that’s lightweight and rainproof. In a neutral color, it’s one of the most versatile pieces of outerwear that a man can own.

Here’s my 5 favorite options available right now:

1) Orange Lightweight Raincoat by Acne ($610)

2) Navy Concealed Placket Mac by Reiss ($425)

3) Olive Dunkeld Coat by Mackintosh ($995)

4) Burgundy Single Breasted Zip Trench by Topman ($116.47)

5) Khaki Two-Tone Mac by Club Monaco ($289)

I own a handful of Spring MACs, but the navy blue APC that I’ve had since college is still my favorite. Here’s some examples of the countless ways you can wear it.

I’ve had my mac for year and a half, got a navy one from the Gap on black Friday pricing for under $50, and it gets used year round, despite the canadian winters (I’ll layer it with a fleece or down vest over my sweater or blazer for anything above about -15C). It’s held up well and is still looking good.

I got a navy mac from Banana Republic for $147 a few weeks ago. I absolutely love it.

Thrifted a brooks brothers Mac two years ago. Serves me well kinda like the classic trench more due to more details. The Mac is pretty boring.

Love the navy, but since when is traffic cone orange ‘neutral?’

I know what you mean, but I don’t think they were saying that all five pieces were in neutral. Burgundy is not neutral either, though it’s probably my favourite of the five.

I’m a big fan of raincoats and trenches. They are way more practical than overcoats, and take up much less wardrobe space

Dig the coat. Uhhh, They never say orange is neutral.

He just suggested one in a neutral as in the olive or navy is versatile, but the ones listed are some of his favorites, granted that you already have a neutral colored one in your wardrobe.
