Just like the jacket, the right tux pants can be worn as separates as well.
These midnight blue trousers with black grosgrain satin stripe on the outseam are perfect to take a simple summer look from casual & predictable to chic & unique.
The design and construction of these tuxedo pants is essentially the same as suit trousers, except for the satin stripe, besom back pockets (no button), suspender buttons on the inner waistband and button side-adjusters.
I probably should have mentioned this option in my recent post on side-adjusters; button side-adjusters are more subtle, slightly more formal and look more appropriate with suspenders than their metal counterparts – making them ideal for tuxedo trousers. A similar clean beltless front, only less hardware holding them up.
Thanks, as always, for reading. Some great new features on the way.
Yours in style,
SB

I have to say one of my favorite things about your blog and style is how you stress versatility in clothing. Not sure I would have ever thought about using tux pieces as separates, but in both posts you pull it off well.
Most men will go through life renting ill fitting tuxes when needed. I plan on buying a tux one day and you have me thinking midnight blue will be the way to go.
Great post as always Dan. Keep up the good work!

I never buy retail, shop often at sample sales, i’ve been collecting quality clothing for a few years now, and it helps to know the right people :)
To: It is Gross alright
Is that a challange?? Already thinking of ways to pull it off…maybe in the fall I’ll have my seamstress cut a dark patterned pajama top into a cropped cardigan and wear it under a tweed blazer….

Thanks as always for your comments Jason!
Thanks to all for reading.

I just ordered a MTM suit in a similar midnight blue, still not done yet…
The pants look kinda too tight when you’re sitting down though.
are they really narrow at the bottom? Because the standing pictures look normal though…

Honestly, I don’t like this post that much. I mean, the outfits alright, but that shirt just looks too ‘dressed down’ for the shoes and pants. At least a white oxford would have looked better, IMO.
But on the bright side, I believe this is only the second post of yours I disapprove of; the first being those, and I’m sorry, terrible fleece pants on the old blog.

In response to commenter Ryan. What?! That was one of my favorite looks! (http://mensstyleblog.blogspot.com/2009/12/sb-endorses-sweat-trousers.html) He’s wearing sweat pants with black lace-ups and a full suit and tie, and totally pulling it off! Can’t say i’ve EVER seen that,.So much respect SB. Also the white oxford would have worked in this look, but not in the summer, and the whole idea he’s going for is contrasting formal and casual. Thats the point i think. My 2 cents. Please keep it up

And I respect your opinion, Open Your Mind and Anonymous. But I retain mine. I think the fleece pants looked like he was wearing PJs. It was just the way they draped and such.
I’m no hater, just a loving critic ;)

I love this look. It really works because of the slim pants and the midnight blue instead of black gives it a little something as well. I think the real key to making it happen though is keeping the palette subdued, a little more forma, as you suggest. Very cool, keep up the good work.

Hey SB,
Im going to a wedding in October. I suggested to my brother that we all get tuxes.
Would it be inappropriate to wear the tux with no sox?
thanks!

Hey. Thanks for reading. Unless you are really fashion-forward, or your style is really edgy…I would say definitely wear socks. It’s a tuxedo. It’s a wedding. And it’s October.
Hope this helps.
Best,
Dan
