The temperature here in NYC has finally started to cool off consistently, making it the perfect time to start layering in blazers.
You don’t need a jacket or a coat yet, just something to throw over your shoulders to break the breeze. One of my go-tos this time of year is a plaid or windowpane sportcoat (or suit jacket, if the fabric is right).
Early Fall is also a great time to begin introducing some autumn-worthy color palettes (think organic, earthy, rustic).
Here, three jackets with a punch along with three color palettes inspired by mother nature herself.
1. Cold Waves
This plaid cotton jacket works well for Summer (because it’s cotton and unlined) as well as for Fall (because the colors are cool and neutral – although not very subtle).
Bonus Tip: White denim in after Summer? Why not?
Bonus Tip II: Try a soft jacket over a fitted v-neck knit for a weekend-chic look (although maybe not 100% appropriate for the bball court).
- Blue plaid cotton jacket by Michael Andrews Bespoke
- Teal ribbed v-neck by Gucci
- White denim jeans by Helmut Lang
- Brown alligator belt by Ralph Lauren Purple Label
- Navy shades by Zanerobe
- Watch by Montblanc Timewalker
- Leather duffle bag by Lotuff & Clegg
- Burgundy penny loafers by Bass

You are very right that orange and brown work well together(and they are the traditional colors of Thanksgiving!) because they are related. When you add black or blue to orange, you get brown.
Your use of patterns is phenomenal…I can’t tell if I like the popped peak lapels or not??? Either you always keep it funky, Dan.
Cheers!
SO COOL
You got me with the third one! quite charming indeed…

SB,
Every once in a while I’m disappointed with some of your looks – and then you do a post like this where you’re KILLING IT! Keep up the good work and don’t go getting too big for us.

I really liked the pink blazer you wore on last night’s Project Runway. Looking good.

I love all of the plaid jackets, and the orange pants are so cool! Plus it’s nice to see that white pants can work well in fall too.
Thanks for all the awesome posts!
I totally love the red chinos. they look too dope.
smooth , it’s both whatever and puntual. my everyday look
WOW… love the color of the pants on the Autumn Leaves!..
Great post. Look 3 is favorite. That’s a great grouping of colors. I love windowpane suits/jackets. (I own two: one is subtle on a gray suit, the other is a bit more noticeable on an Italian sports coat.
Great as always, I like to bring out herringbone in the fall
COOL
The windownpane jackets in looks 2 and 3 are amazing. I love the under-the-collar detail; it really adds some great character to the look and does a wonderful job of tying in some different shades of brown. Your looks continue to inspire me on a daily basis. Thank you for doing what you do.
P.S. – I’ve been having some trouble finding other blogs that compare to this one for men’s fashion. Any blogs that you try to keep up on that you’d be willing to share?
Great colors… love the first look
Did the game go as you predicted? :)
You always wear really awesome window pane blazers and sportcoats. Yours are always bespoke though. Where are some good places where we can find them though? I want one REALLY badly, but can’t seem to find them anywhere.
Brooks Brothers, J Press, Ralph Lauren, Armani, Saks Mens Collection, Michael Kors, Etro, Hickey Freeman, Jos. A Bank, eBay, Thrift Stores, and on and on….you really can’t find one anywhere??? hmmm….
Look #1 is great. I really don’t think white jeans are for summer only.
What’s the style name of the bass loafers?
Thank you for wearing white after labor day. Look 3 is hot and I love a popped suit collar with the addition of a gauzey thin scarf casually thrown in the mix. Great post!
