For whatever reason, too many guys shy away from the turtleneck sweater.
A thin turtleneck in a dark neutral color – like this forest green – works with just about anything and can instantly make your look more mature and rakish.
Here I styled a fine-gage wool turtleneck from Uniqlo for 5 different occasions.
1. Evening Event or Work Cocktail Party
The sweater should be snug enough that it hugs your body and fits easily under a sharply tailored suit.
A turtleneck + suit is a simple, refined look that isn’t fussy and emits confidence.
Bonus Tip: Keep in mind that the turtleneck is probably best for those with a longer and thinner neck (that is not to say that others can’t pull it off).
Bonus Tip II: Earthy tones look great on just about any skin tone. I’m a huge fan of olive and brown with tan accents.
Bonus Tip III: A subtle accent color can be used in small doses to bring your look together. Yellowish tan in the tortoiseshell shades, light horn suit buttons, natural leather shoes.

I own the same UniQlo turtlneck. Its 30% wool and kinda itchy. Is there anyway to deal with that? Do you wear an undershirt with it? Will is start to get less itchy the more I wear it?

I’m typically ANTI turtleneck. But not gonna lie, you may have just shifted my thoughts. I like that you styled it with a define neckline in each piece (such as the lapels, high sweater collars and the scarf). This makes the neck not sooo elongated and the turtleneck actually polished off the whole look. Great work… again and again!

Purchased some recfently and had my tailor sow some old school english patches on a couple of them neck , shoulder (worn with a vest) chest, back etc….enough said!!!

Great blog but I have to ask why it seems almost all of your pants are hemmed to “floodpant” height? It just looks like you’re screaming “Look at my shoes and sock!!!” It’s too try-hard.
Anyway, keep up the good work but I just had to comment on that.
I have pants in all kinds of lengths, the hemline I chose depends on the fabric. Generally speaking the drape looks cleaner with hardly any break – which is my preference.
Also, yes, it helps show off the shoes. Keep in mind this is a descriptive/instructional blog – socks are part of the outfit, and hiding them wouldn’t do much good. For this reason, for the close-up shots of the shoes the pants are often pulled up.
As I always say: do you. If you like your pants longer, have your tailor hem them accordingly.

Hate to rain on your parada, Mr Trepanier. In shot 4, the sunglasses do not fit right on your face. They are uneven, and it, in all honesty, affects your look negatively. What should be well put together is ruined by badly fitting sunnies.

Your right, they can probably use an adjustment.
Bonus Tip: If you ever need an adjustment to your frames or sunglasses, many optic shops, like Lenscrafters, offer free service even if you didn’t buy them there. For example: if you have a problem with them slipping down the bridge of your nose, simply have the back end of the temples custom-bent around your ear to keep them in place.

I have a question for you Dan and I would love to hear back from you if you can. I have some suits from a company called Harry Rosen here in Canada. They’re made to measure and while the fit, colors and patterns of my suits are what I like. The suits have 3 buttons instead of the more popular 2 and 1 buttons. Do I get rid if them?
Don’t get rid of them.
If you want just button the middle button, it looks fine.
If you’re willing to put a little money into them take them to a tailor and have them press the jackets to a 3/2 roll (Basically just re-rolls the lapels down to the middle button) – if anything that’s more stylish than 2 buttons alone.
