The hunt for a one-of-a-kind piece that can make any outfit your own.
Here are some of my favorite vintage and second-hand finds, each of which makes its own statement.
1. Full-Length Wool Trench
As I mentioned in our previous post, it’s hard to go wrong with a trench coat.
Keep in mind that a good alterations specialist can transform the fit of a garment. When I found this wool trench it was huge and swallowed my body.
I had my tailors (at The Tailoring Room) take-in the sides and sleeves and now I look forward to throwing it over a suit whenever it’s cold and I want to feel extra “bossy”.
Bonus Tip: A long trench can always be chopped, and a raglan sleeve saves the tailor from having to re-cut the shoulder/armhole (which is a lot of work and $).

Definitely true on items telling you a story – I picked up two Lanvin ties at my local Salvation Army store for $1 each! 80′s retro have never looked better.
GREAT post. I actually don’t mind the ‘diamond in the rough’ approach myself usually, it can be even more rewarding in the end- but I’ve never found pieces like these either. What’s a raglan sleeve?
Raglan sleeves connect all the way to the neck (versus ending right at the shoulder). Definitely a pro in vintage finds, cause you can get away with a bit sloppier shoulder fitment and as SB mentioned, easier tailoring.

Every single look here is absolutely flawless. By far one of my favorite posts. The vintage trench coat from the first look has a presence of a classic Rolls Royce. The velvet Del Toro slippers are a nice touch aswell.

Maybe 1/200 men will have the wardrobe and sartorial know-how to be able to effectively make a pair of light, faded, stonewashed jeans look stylish. The others will look like an extra on Seinfeld. This is a dangerous game you play, styleblogger.
Keep in mind this site is 1 part instructional, 1 part inspirational.
As in any area of life, you have to pick and choose which advice works best for you personally.

Also, I think what Dan does well—unilaterally—is focus on a high/low type dynamic with an emphasis on fit. Well-fitted stonewashed jeans with a bespoke jacket and simple white broadcloth shirt looks way more Rome and way less UWS Seinfeld. Just a thought. Don’t think it’s as hard to pull off as you do.
