One-of-a-Kind: Statement Vintage Pieces

Published on March 19th, 2012

The best part about vintage shopping is the hunt.

The hunt for a one-of-a-kind piece that can make any outfit your own.

Here are some of my favorite vintage and second-hand finds, each of which makes its own statement.

 1. Full-Length Wool Trench

As I mentioned in our previous post, it’s hard to go wrong with a trench coat.

Keep in mind that a good alterations specialist can transform the fit of a garment. When I found this wool trench it was huge and swallowed my body.

I had my tailors (at The Tailoring Room) take-in the sides and sleeves and now I look forward to throwing it over a suit whenever it’s cold and I want to feel extra “bossy”.

Bonus Tip: A long trench can always be chopped, and a raglan sleeve saves the tailor from having to re-cut the shoulder/armhole (which is a lot of work and $).

Featured Items:
  • Grey wool trench coat Vintage
  • Silver 2″ tie bar by Tiffany & Co
  • Brown leather wingtips by Gucci
  • Blue shadow plaid suit by Michael Andrews Bespoke
