4. Bike Ride & Picnic

If it’s a “fancy” date you can wear a suit, but you don’t want to look like a suit.
Drop the socks, the belt, and a couple shirt buttons (or three if you’re not afraid of a little cleavage).

A suit in a textured fabric looks more “chic” and less “office”, as does a shirt with a darker base color.

I love the bomber jacket but I can’t find it anywhere. It’s quite disappointing.
What a lovely post. You must b getting an amazing response by all those lovely men out there looking for advice on this matter – even though I know men that would absolutely disagree on the ballet flats for the girl.. and believe women should proudly strut across town in pretty heels.. oh well :) Great blog btw.

I feel so awkward when trying the no sock look….
Nice and timless
I’ve been telling people about the no sock’s look and I love it
i love the concept of this post. its a topic that alot of men well dressed, style-conscious men, myself included, don’t always have a firm grasp of. Ever since i could afford to dress myself I’ve dressed different and pretty well according to myself and the compliments of others. back on the dating scene now and i noticed that when rocking a more subdued thrown together look, i get more looks from the average girl than when i really put something together. fit and simplicity are key for most girls. girls tend to stay away from guys they think will try to out-dress them. you have to look approachable and confident. recently learned that and this post solidifies it. thanks Dan
i keep going back to that very last picture. that suit color matched with the brown loafers is incredible. also the heigth of the trousers and taper – well played good sir. well played.

Looks great, man– good tips. She’s as cute as a button.
Holding hands, hand on her thigh, hand on her derriere; all on a first date!?!? Wow, you move fast playa:-)
Lovely!
Getting in trouble with wifee for all the alteration expenses but great work, Dan + Karyn.
Hi Dan
Loving the blog. Is the navy stripe top in the bike photo a longsleeve t-shirt or like a jumper? Suppose what am asking is it light or heavy!
Looks like a pretty light-weight tee

Is the bike look top a longsleeve t-shirt or a jumper?
I can’t believe you would wear suit pants while riding a bike. I’ve ruined many – grease, caught in chain.
Hi Aggie. I wear a suit, or at least trousers, on my bike almost every day – like millions of men (and women) around the world.
If your pants are getting caught in the chain you should consider having them tapered, or investing in a chain guard for your bike.
Thanks for reading,
Dan
I really like your Movie Night look. Very cool and chic. Both of your looks for Drinks & Night Out are cute. Simple and stylish.

Very impressive post as usual, Dan! I really like the simplicity of your look in the “bike ride & picnic” set.
Love the Rag & Bone cardigan and the Boss saddle shoes. Solid advice. Great pictures too.

hi sir, m just wondering abt why drop the socks for dinner reservation? can u give ur explaination as specefic as possimble? cheers
Hi Dan, great timing on this one actually!
What is the leg opening on your hopsack suit trousers? I had some trousers tailored the other day but felt they were a little too skinny – redid them now I think they’re too wide! Was wondering if you would be kind enough to provide a reference.
Thanks – informative post as ever.
@ Craig W – 15.5″ but dan recommends 16″ for his readers that are not “stylists”
Good stuff. I love how versatile that watch is!
Amazing as usual. I really like the first and fifth look on Dan and the first look on Karyn. I love it when people take something like a bathing suit and use it for a different purpose. Extremely clever.

Great post as usual! Love the bike clothes!
The hopsack looks really good in this post! Definitely a happy couple, hopefully you got to take her on all these first dates! Haha. Great shot through the window
Seeing your backpack in 4 reminded me (since you’re in the bag business now, after all) what do you think of creating a bag that can be appropriately used as a backpack and also a duffle? You’d have to play with the dimensions a bit:)
I love your looks in “Brunch and walk in the park.”
Karyn looks gorgeous — love the green knit jersey dress!

I love your looks in “Brunch and Walk in the Park!” Karyn looks gorgeous — love her knit green dress!
Your posts never cease to amaze me. Good advice!
What a perfect post!
Your hand’s drifting a liiiittle low in that second to last shot there, Dan. ;)
Luv all the looks, the brunch and walk in the park is so nice. Karyn`s knit dress is wonderful and it`s also very confortable. What I like about Karyn is that she is very natural! :)
Hey Dan,
I’ve been looking all over for an unlined black cotton blazer. I’d like to find one at a reasonable price, but have been scouring the net and have been unable to find even one. Could you give me a few options where I could buy one? Thanks and keep up the great work!
Anthony
Interesting that I should read this today…the day that I have a date.
Good luck! :)
This is def my 2nd fave post
awesome post!!!!!!!! keep up the good work
Dan,
This shoot is excellent. You two have such great chemistry, and it translates so well to film.
Sincerely,
TLZ.
Dan,
I Love this post!
My personal favorite would be the first one (“Movie Night”). I think you nailed it! The only concern I have is the shoe selection for “Drinks & Night Out”. I would wear something a bit casual and/or ‘younger’.
