TSB Street Style

May 3rd, 2013

Downtown NYC there’s style inspiration on every street corner – just keep your head up and eyes open.

For those who aren’t in the big apple, Alex cruises the streets to capture these stylish gents. Notice how the clothes, and the way they are worn, tell stories about the men in the photos.

Street Style – Nashville Edition

April 24th, 2013

“I recently went down to Nashville to get wasted with some of my college friends. Though I don’t remember taking any of these photos, they were on my camera when I came to back in New York.” -Alex

1. Mark

27 copy

One of my favorite things about Mark’s look is that his jeans are from Wal-Mart. He tailored them and added the braces buttons himself.

2. Andrew

1

Andrew is one of the biggest BMX photographers in the game right now.

3. Chase

6

Chase was in visiting from LA so it was a real treat that we were in Nashville at the same time.

4. Wes

4

Wes loves hammocks and J.Crew.

5. Chip

13

Chip is one of the most legit prep/trad dressers I’ve ever met. Here he’s wearing all vintage everything including a pair of Sebagos that belonged to his grandfather.

Spring is in the Air: John

April 15th, 2013

04

We love having style challenges in the TSB office. A little competition is healthy and keeps us bringing our “A” game.

We teamed up with the good people at Johnston & Murphy to bring you a series called “Spring is in the Air”, where each of our team members chooses their favorite pair from the current J&M collection and styles them in an outfit that best represents the best of their Spring Style.

08

John broke out his vintage madras jacket and pulled-it-off by keeping the rest of his look simple and classic prep: blue oxford, navy chambray tie, khaki chinos, brown loafs.

10

His J&M footwear selection was the “Clemmons” slip-on; a softly-constructed take on the classic tassel loafer that can be styled for just about any occasion. Smart choice.

Other posts in this series coming soon…

There is so much personal style in NYC, you can find inspiration on every street corner.

I think it’s important to observe how others express themselves through clothing, and how their style tells a story about them.

Here are some of the guys that caught Alex’s eye on the streets of the Lower East Side.

1. Dressed-Up Rugged

03

Awesome textures and colors here, and each of the pieces is a versatile menswear staple.

2. Doggy Bag

01

A smart casual look with great fit and authentically broken-in pieces. Clever use of the canvas duffle bag.

3. 3/4 Knit Outerwear

04

This is one of the coolest looks I’ve seen in a while. I love the flowy proportion play, the simple color palette, the longer DB jacket, the broken-in boots, the wider rolled trousers…his overall swagger. Killin’ it.

4. Finer Details

05

The clothing here is great, practical and nicely broken-in. What really stands out, though, is the sharp grooming and flattering eyewear.

5. Simple not Fussy

10

Love the simplicity, and the raglan-sleeve coat. Nice touch with the mix of three shades of beige, too.

Thanks for reading, and special thanks to those who allowed us to take their photo. Plenty more to come.

TSB Street Style

February 21st, 2013

Alex finally worked up the courage to hit the streets for our 2nd edition of TSB Street Style. He and I also just made a deal that he would deliver one of these posts every week.

There is so much personal style in NYC, you can find inspiration on just about every street corner. I think it’s important to observe how others express themselves through clothing, and how their clothes tell stories about them.

Here are some of the guys that caught Alex’s attention in the hour he spent on the streets of SoHo.

1. Contrast Collar

01

Have you ever seen an orange shearling overcoat with a brown collar and beige cuffs? One-of-a-kind vintage at its finest. This guy reminds of Canada, in the best way.

2. Rockstar Black-Out

03

Rockstar chic. Black on black on black, with a touch of gold. Also love the idea of layering a leather piece under a duffle.

3. Clean & Dusty

04

Not sure what I like more, the burgundy wool trench or those dusty neutral boots.

4. Old School/New School

07

Timbs are making a comeback baby! But jeans are sitting up on top of them now, rather than spilling all over the place, circa 1990s.

5. Classy Street

05

Grown-man streetwear at its finest. Also, another great example of layering a leather piece.

TSB Street Style

December 10th, 2012

Another new feature to our revamped TSB Daily: NYC Street Style with commentary from the TSB Team.

It’s been a relatively mild November and December thus far on the East Coast. We hit the streets to see how the stylish gents of NYC are keeping up with the up-and-down weather.

Feel free to share your comments below.

1. Prep School Influence

“Classic American Prep at it’s finest. Slim repp tie to match his slim frame and a stripe sock to pull it all together. Also love the khaki/navy/black mix. Well done sir. ”

2. C/O: Mr. Gooch

“Ran into our friend Gooch (as feature here). This guy has amazing personal style, always unique and full of vintage character.”

3. Down-The-Middle

“Here’s a perfect example of combining dressy and casual elements. Relaxed tweed jacket, denim shirt, forest green cords, bean boots, tortoise shades, slick back hair… Well put together, but not too stiff or serious.”

4. Layered Up

“We’re huge fans of chunky cardigans at TSB, and this guy has a beautiful one. From the fedora hat, to the mismatched vest and trousers, to the buttoned collar sans tie…this guy’s got style. ”

5. Unexpected Pattern-Mixing

“Pattern-mixing is tricky business. Typically I wouldn’t recommend camo on plaid but this guy is wearing it well, and with confidence. The details bring together his hip look, like the slim but not tight fit, casually rolled cuffs and well-groomed beard. ”

6. College Style Done Right

“This is what a NYU student looks like, in our perfect world. Youthful, presentable, collegiate. Extra points for the club collar + slim bowtie combination and that awesome moleskin jacket”

Thanks for reading. Plenty more to come.

Yours in style,

TSB
